| 2nd | Bloomington | 16 - 14 |

The Bar Point Club won their 3rd straight Challenge Cup in
relatively
easy fashion by jumping out to a 14-4 record after 3 rounds. They then
lost their first 4 matches of the fourth round to give hope to the other clubs.
But a strong 6-2 finish gave them their 3 peat as Bill Davis won the clincher.
Faddoul Khoury of Peoria and David Rockwell of the Bar Point Club were
the only
undefeated
players and split the side pool by going 5 - 0.
David's
accomplishment
was even more impressive considering he was playing in the
#1 slot
and played
the best player from each of the other 5 clubs in the state.
Congratulations to Paul Baraz who got his name on the cup for the first time.
Both
Bill Davis and Herb Roman won for the 4th time, and this was the
3rd time for Phyliss Smolinski. David Rockwell and Carter Mattig are
on
the cup twice by going back to back and winning for the 2nd straight year.
This is a rare achievement by these two deserving backgammon experts.
Bloomington won 2nd place when Randy Armstrong of Springfield
defeated Joe Szwedo of the Pub Club in the last match of the day.
